2015 Project

Brown Engineers, LLC

Project For: Clarksville Light & Water

Meeting a 30-Day SCADA Configuration Deadline

Problem
When Clarksville Light & Water (CLW) bought new radio telemetry units (RTU) for their water tanks and pump stations, they planned to do the integration themselves, connecting those remote sites to their SCADA for the first time. But after several months (and staff changes), all that hardware was still collecting dust, not data. Brown Engineers stepped in to help.

Clarksville set an ambitious 30-day deadline for Brown to configure and integrate all the remote sites, program and implement a new HMI application, and add SCADA nodes.

Solution
Thanks to Ignition, Brown met that 30-day challenge on time and under budget—while delivering unexpected value and high-end features: Remote monitoring and control functionality, automated email/text alert management, historical data management, and unlimited data points and view clients.

Brown helped replace Clarksville’s water system’s clunky, dysfunctional, obsolete SCADA system with one that’s more useful, flexible and affordable. The small public utility in Northwest Arkansas has less than 5,000 water customers—but its New SCADA would be envied by many big city utilities.

Next, Brown Engineers replaced obsolete controls at Clarksville’s water treatment plant with hardware that better accommodates their new HMI’s unlimited potential for data points and view clients. Now, one single Ignition license fee lets Clarksville poll and collect as much data, and connect as many pumps, generators, computers, tablets and smartphones as desired. Historical data uses a standard SQL database engine, allowing storage, reporting and trending of any system data required.

Result
CLW staff and executives enjoy the features, benefits and value so much, they now plan to expand their water system’s New SCADA HMI to support their electrical and waste water operations, too.

Unique to their facility, Clarksville uses ozone to treat the city’s water.
